The 2009 edition of the National Milking Shorthorn Sale was a successful event yet again! This remote sale featured a choice group of exciting young Shorthorn heifers from some of the best breeders in Canada and provided a publicsale opportunity for several new breeders to access top Shorthorn genetics. Bidding took place over 8 hours on Saturday, September 12th, 2009.
High seller on the day was Oceanbrae POD Passion, an Innisfail Prince of Diamonds daughter of 2009 Cow of the Year Oceanbrae Pepper 2nd, sold to John and Julie Knox of Knoxdale Farms, Fenelon Falls, Ontario for $3000. Consigned by Fred Barrett of Miscouche, PEI, "Passion" is due in early 2010.
2nd high seller on the day was Oceanbrae T Ireland, a daughter of Oceanbrae Thunder from the Irma family at Oceanbrae. She sold new breeder Ron Hornbrook of Mount Middleton, New Brunswick for $2650.
3nd high seller and the top selling open heifer on the day was Eloc Titan Logie Limbo, sired by Cate's Tangerine Perles Titan from 2009 Cow of the Year nominee Eloc Othello Liza Logie. Consigned by Sandy Cole of Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, she sold for $2400 to Stephen & Janet Edwards of Cobden, Ontario.
16 animals of all ages averaged $1772. Animals sold to buyers in Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Wisconsin.
