River's Edge Betty Anne is named 2011 Cow of the Year

The Canadian Milking Shorthorn Society is pleased to announce that River's Edge Betty Anne EX-90-7E has been voted as 2011 Cow of the Year by the members of the Society.  Betty Anne combines show winning conformation, strong production and longevity in one impressive package!  Betty Anne was bred by former CMSS Secretary James H. Knott and is owned by Tim Shearer and Irene Vietinghoff of Lynmark Farms in Norwood, Ontario.  She is sired by Meriville Prince Edward, the well known sire of productive, long-lasting cows in the Milking Shorthorn breed sampled by the Semex Alliance in Canada.

Betty Anne is one of only 4 Milking Shorthorn cows in Canadian history to be classified Excellent seven times.  In 2010, Betty Anne was Class Leader for Composite BCA in the 10 Years and Older age category, producing 8288 kgs of milk at 4.1% fat and 3.4% protein in 305 days.  She has calved again for the ninth time at the age of 11 years and 5 months and has now produced in excess of 60,000 kgs of milk in her lifetime.

Betty Anne is also a two time Grand Champion at the Canadian National Milking Shorthorn Show in Lindsay, Ontario, winning in 2003 and 2005.  She has been first in her class four times at the National Show.  She has a son that has been used in the Lynmark herd as well as a son sold to the Snyder family of Prosperous Acres Milking Shorthorns of Dashwood, Ontario.  She also has a VG-88 daughter by Roxie's Rodd in the Lynmark herd.
